TKHS Students Raise Funds for TK Staff Battling Cancer

In addition to helping several non-profit organizations by decorating IV bags, Kids Food Basket lunch bags, and making toys for animals in shelters among some of the many projects,  TK students also raised  $3,000 to donate to two TK staff members  - Anthony Cornacchione and Trisha Brown - both battling cancer.

Students said they liked being able to give back to the community that has supported the schools so much. They also said it's nice to be able to help others who may be in need of food or other items. Seniors said they've loved Service Learning every year and freshman said they looked forward to getting their first chance to be part of the special day.

After the sessions to assist non-profit organizations, students gathered in the gymnasium for an all-out dance party. They gathered round and had a dance-off competition, line-danced, and just had fun being with friends.

Because students also reached their goals of donating items, they were treated to a holiday movie in the afternoon with surprise visits from Principal Tony Petersen dressed as Santa, teacher Jeff Dock dressed as Buddy the Elf, and school resource officer Tony Stein dressed as Olaf the snowman from Frozen.

The service learning day has become an annual event most students look forward to each year.
