Pair of 7th Graders Earn Top Spelling Bee Honors

Lexi Filipiak, a 7th grader, correctly spelled “euphoria”  and then “gondolas” to claim the title. Dominic Galassi, also a 7th grader, was the runner up. He stumbled on the word “inimitable” to open the door for Filipiak to gain the title.

Filipiak and Galassi were the only two spellers left by round 13. Ben Reaser was a contender with them in rounds 10 and 11 before being eliminated in round 12.

Twenty-five classroom champions participated in the school wide spelling bee. Filipiak and Galassi will represent Thornapple Kellogg Middle School in the regional spelling bee early next year.

Congratulations to each of the students participating in today’s school wide contest.
