In the symphonic band, director Ray Rickert awarded the John Philip Sousa Awards to Tessa Wenger and Carly Postma. The John Philip Sousa Award recognizes superior musicianship, dependability, loyalty and cooperation.
Two Band Booster Scholarship awards were also presented to Haden Bovee and Journie Scheltema. Both students plan to study music at Western Michigan University.
Three students were also recognized as student leaders for the band. Those students are Haden Bovee, Josie Smith and Audrey Guikema.
All 25 senior members of the symphonic band were recognized in front of the parents and guests attending the concert. In the concert band, the six seniors were recognized for their years in the music program.
