Head football coach Jeff Dock spoke to the TKHS student body Friday morning during the homecoming assembly. He encouraged them to get fired up for the game tonight and enjoy every minute.
“Amidst the tragedy that we felt this week, another one, a quote came to mind from Steve Prefontaine. If you don’t give your very best effort you sacrifice the gift. Sometimes the gift is individual talents, sometimes the gift is an individual thing, but sometimes the gift - don’t lose sight of this - but sometimes the gift is the day.”
“Life is fragile - we learned that today. We’ve learned it the last 18 months. Life is fragile. Don’t ever lose sight of the gift that today is right now. Seniors don’t lose sight of the gift of your last homecoming…Life is fragile. Enjoy every second of it. You don’t know when it’s going to be taken away.”
“Come on out tonight. Be loud and crazy. You guys are the best student section around. Be nuts. Band is going to have a great performance. We’re going to have a great football game. Let’s have a great dance on Saturday and enjoy the heck out of it all.”
During the assembly, the homecoming court was introduced and they competed in a small wheel race. A game of musical chairs included students from each grade level, and teachers Dock, Amy Forman and Tricia Rickert took swings at a piñata until the candy spilled and was thrown to the students.
The homecoming parade starts at 5 p.m. taking off from Lee Elementary School and heading on Main Street to Bender Road before finishing in the Page Elementary School parking lot. Tailgate festivities will take place on the south side of the high school after the parade.
Prior to the 7 p.m. kickoff, the TK Alumni Association will award the Distinguished Alumni honor. Halftime of the game will bring out the TK Marching Band and the coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen. Tickets to tonight’s game are $5.
